CHEVIOT MONTHLY UPDATE (INCLUDING EARLSTON, LAUDER & OXTON)
APRIL
ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR (ASB) A very quiet month with the Police reporting three incidents to us for information and/or monitoring/checking. All three involved youths and Primary Schools; Broomlands (Kelso) an off-road motorbike, in Lauder they were causing a nuisance and making lots of noise and in Yetholm it was loud music being played in cars. Checking with the ASB unit; overall it has been generally quiet throughout the borders with youths and ASB.
There has been more vandalism at the Newtown St Boswells toilets. One evening three teenagers (female) were caught flooding the female toilets. Names were taken and the details passed onto the local police Community Beat Officer (CBO) who conducted follow up actions (i.e. speaking to their parents).
We were notified about three further incidents regarding ASB; youths hanging around the playpark by the bus terminus in Jedburgh, vandalism at a play park in Kelso (Farrier Court) and some issues surrounding a gathering place in Oxton (The Loan)
CANINE CAPERS Two Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) were issued throughout the Borders this month bringing the total for the year to 35 (one in St Boswells). Wardens witnessed 239 dog walkers picking-up bring the total for the year 1232. In our area we witnessed 91 pick ups; Kelso 34, Jedburgh 20, Yetholm 9, Newtown St Boswells 3, St Boswells 11, Lauder 6, Earlston 4, Ancrum 3 and one in Heiton. Three warnings were given; one each in Kelso, Jedburgh and Newtown St Boswells.
Members of the public reported eleven areas of concern relating to dog fouling. These were as follows; Kelso (Berrymoss Court, Edenside Gardens, Rennie Court, Bowmont Street), Jedburgh (Galahill (x2), Allerley Well Park, Hartrigge Road Play Park, Athol Court), Newtown St Boswells (Tweedside Road) and Heiton (Roxburgh Road). These areas were visited, complainants contacted and where required posters displayed.
One warning was given in Yetholm under the ‘Control of Dogs Act’.

ILLEGAL DUMPING (FLY TIPPING) Nothing to report.
TRADE WASTE Nothing to report.
THE ENVIRONMENT Nothing to report.
GRAFFITI Nothing to report.
AND FINALLY The redeployment of the Wardens has commenced with one of the team moving on to be a roads inspector; so we are now a team of six.
